Myrobalan Shivana: Vandelin's cousin, a fellow mage with whom he grew up in Hasmal Circle. When they found themselves on opposite sides of the rebellion, Vandelin was partially and accidentally responsible for blinding him--but nonetheless, they remain the closest thing to brothers that Circle mages are allowed to have.
Petrana de Cedoux: Vandelin's employer, the head of the Diplomacy division, who saw potential in him and appointed him her attaché. He respects her highly and thinks she does good work.

Vandelin's father, a stern and devout Andrastian with aspirations to the position of alienage elder. Big on obedience and discipline. Not big on Tevinter, refugees, or Tevinter refugees. Really, really not big on magic.

Leena Emith (née Filduine)

Vandelin's mother, almost equally stern and not especially given to warmth or affection. Nonetheless, she has of late started seeking out any news she can find about the Inquisition and the mage rebels who joined it. Just...because.

Niana Emith

Vandelin's older sister, who was ten when he last saw her. Always world-weary beyond her years, she runs a well-respected pottery business within the alienage and is working on branching out into the city bazaar.

Linise Athera (née Emith)

Vandelin's younger sister, who was six when he last saw her. The perennial golden child of the Elris family, always amiable and dutiful. Married to a waiter in a local tavern, and mother to a five-year-old boy. Still terrified of templars.

Clarence Pinckney-Brimble

Vandelin's roommate for three years after passing his Harrowing. An intensely self-righteous loyalist who considered himself the creme de la creme of Hasmal's crop due to his mediocre talent for creation magic. His nose has never been quite the same since Myr broke it in defense of Vandelin's honor, post-uprising, in just about the same place where it was once bruised when Van hexed him into walking into a doorframe.

Rohesia Barlow

One of Vandelin's apprentices, who took instantly to his revolutionary fervor and soon surpassed her teacher. In the months leading to the uprising, she agitated ceaselessly for rebellion, publishing pamphlets, nailing threats to loyalists' doors, and preparing for the coming battle--during which she cast the Horror spell that reacted with Vandelin's magical sleep to cause Myr the hallucinations that took his sight. Her whereabouts are currently unknown.

THE HINTERLANDS

Travis Kirchner

A rebel from the Circle of Jainen, with whom Vandelin fell in love and shared a bedroll for months as they fought their way through the Fereldan backwoods. Travis was not an especially intellectual man, but proficient in the various primal disciplines and willing to use them all with relish. The question of what to do at their journey's end, however, divided them--Vandelin argued for joining the Inquisition with the rest of the legitimate rebels, while Travis insisted that the Inquisition would only sell them all back to the Chantry as soon as it was done using them.

They parted ways, and Travis joined another group of apostates making a last desperate stand in the Witchwood. At last report, there were no survivors.

Adalbert Maynard

Adalbert was a critic of the Chantry and its control over the Circles from a young age, and his arguments were influential in Van's decision to break with his own religious upbringing (though he charged Adalbert's robe drawer with incurable static cling for shit-talking Myr's Chant-discussion group.)

They became friendly enough as teenagers, and shared an exceedingly awkward first kiss before Adalbert's family managed to piss off the Hasmali government enough that the Circle authorities decided everyone would be better off if he were elsewhere and transferred him to Markham.
